On November 12, the government of Kazakhstan signed a resolution approving the “Agreement Between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Government of Turkmenistan, and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the Mutual Recognition of Higher Education Documents.” The project was announced by the Kazakh government.
According to the resolution, all parties to the agreement will recognize diplomas issued by higher education institutions that are accredited and legally operating in any of the five Central Asian republics.
Recognition of these diplomas will apply when applying for employment in another Central Asian country, as well as during internships or when continuing uninterrupted higher education.
The document also stipulates that the qualifications of specialists must comply with the general requirements of the higher education system. If significant discrepancies are identified between requirements, a diploma from another country may not be recognized.
The resolution includes additional conditions: Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan have agreed to recognize diplomas from any higher education institution in the region. Kazakhstan, however, will recognize only diplomas from universities ranked among the world’s top 1,000.
