Yesterday, March 12, during his state visit to the French Republic, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev was awarded France’s highest honor—the Legion of Honor. This was reported by the press service of the President.

According to the report, the award was ceremoniously presented to Mirziyoyev by French President Emmanuel Macron. The Uzbek President received the order for his significant contributions to the development of bilateral cooperation, strengthening friendship, and mutual understanding between the two nations.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed heartfelt gratitude to the French leader for the award, noting with satisfaction the remarkable achievements in productive cooperation in recent years and the elevation of bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership.

For reference, the Legion of Honor was established in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte. In France, this order is considered the highest recognition of exceptional service at the state level and a symbol of honor and prestige. To date, recipients of this order include Russian President Vladimir Putin, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

As a reminder, earlier, Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Emmanuel Macron adopted a joint declaration on establishing a strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and France.
