In recent days, videos widely circulated on social media have shown a disturbing and controversial scene—an act of self-hanging—being performed during a children’s event at the “Magic City” amusement park in Tashkent. The incident has sparked intense public outcry, but no official body has yet issued a clear explanation or taken responsibility.

Notably, if the performance was intended as a cultural act, the Ministry of Culture claims to have had no prior knowledge of it.

QALAMPIR.UZ reached out to the Tashkent city administration and the Department of Culture to clarify the situation. According to a representative from the Department of Culture, the event was organized without their consent or cooperation. Officials emphasized that “Magic City” is a privately owned park and that the department holds no responsibility for events held on such premises.

Gulnoza Kasimova, the press secretary of the city administration, also addressed the situation. She confirmed awareness of the viral video and reiterated that “Magic City” is private property. She stated that the scene in question was not coordinated with the Tashkent city administration, the Chilonzor district administration (where the park is located), or the city’s Department of Culture. None of these entities were notified in advance.

“This event was not agreed with us. We only found out about it after the incident,” Kasimova said.

It is worth recalling that in August last year, a statement by Minister of Culture Ozodbek Nazarbekov—saying that holding festivals was “more important than paving the street”—sparked widespread public debate.
