Why did Kusherboyev leave the parliament? Exclusive interview

Local

As previously reported, today, 23 December, Rasul Kusherbayev, an MP of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) from the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen - Liberal-Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, resigned from his post.

So, what are the reasons for his resignation from the people's representative body? Are there still pressures on MPs?  Why did he not participate in the meeting where the country's budget for 2023 was discussed?  The resignation of Kusherboyev after the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev sent an address to the chambers of the Oliy Majlis yesterday, raises many questions. QALAMPIR.UZ gave the microphone to Kusherbayev to answer these questions.

"I am deeply saddened by this attitude towards the parliament.  The president said that the parliament is a school of democracy.  He said that people should learn what democracy is here, and let young people come and see debates.  It is said that this is the place where the laws serving the interests of the people should be adopted.  I am very sorry that even after all these words, the attitude of other agencies and some official leaders towards the MPs and the parliament remains the same.  I am very sad."  Kusherbayev said.

He also repeatedly mentioned his concern that the attitude of the officials does not change in practice.

"It is difficult to work in such a place.  We are barely working.  Many of our efforts are not effective.  That's why I want to quit my job in the next few days.  I decided to do so.  There was no other way, we want changes, but there is hypocrisy in many places." - said Rasul Kusherbayev.

Concluding his opinion, the deputy said that he is also to blame himself for this situation.

"The main culprit is ourselves.  It's my fault, I have the most flaws and I could not adapt to this situation.  It is difficult to stand by and watch such things happen. Real suffering! You will understand this later," Kusherbayev expressed his regrets.
