The stalled processes of amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan will be continued.  President Shavkat Mirziyoyev mentioned this in his address to the chambers of the Oliy Majlis today, 20 December.

“In order to bring the development of our country to a new level, both management, legislation, and our society must change.  If we don’t do this, if we can see the problems and not see them, we will be behind the times.  Our people, our young generation will not agree with us.  Therefore, we must deeply inculcate the idea of “Man first, then society and state” in our Constitution and laws, as well as in our daily life, says the President.

He emphasized that it is necessary to strengthen the foundations of national statehood, capable of overcoming serious tests and unpredictable dangers.  Taking this into account, the improvement of the basic law is being continued.

“Our people expect great changes from this reform.  The fact that more than 220,000 proposals have been received in this regard to date is a clear proof of this.  Based on the principle “Society is the initiator of reforms”, we work in consultation with our people on all issues.

“In general, we need to carefully think through and develop the Constitution, whose content is enriched with the spirit of “glorification of human dignity”, which will serve the future generations, and which is suitable for the New Uzbekistan,” said the President.

Mirziyoyev emphasized that all proposals and wishes expressed by citizens will be taken into account and the draft Constitution will be submitted to a national referendum.

“The most important thing is that each of our citizens should be involved in constitutional reforms and be able to say with great pride that this is my Constitution,” he said.
