On March 5, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan welcomed a delegation led by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, who was in the country on an official visit. According to the Presidential Press Service, the meeting emphasized cooperation and strengthening partnerships across various sectors.

The meeting began with Kobakhidze conveying greetings and best wishes from Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili to President Mirziyoyev. Discussions focused on expanding collaboration in trade, economy, investment, transport and logistics, tourism, and cultural exchanges.

Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the growing relationship between the parliaments and governments of the two nations.

“In 2024, bilateral trade increased by 50%, the number of joint enterprises and cargo turnover also rose. Direct flights between the capitals are already being operated,” the press release highlighted.

Additionally, successful cultural cooperation was noted, with Uzbekistan’s culture and cinema days held in Tbilisi last year receiving praise.

The recent intergovernmental commission meeting in Tashkent was also highly appreciated, with both sides agreeing to sustain trade growth, balance export and import flows, promote industrial cooperation, and fully utilize transport and transit potential. Plans to involve regional territories in economic partnerships were also discussed.

"Special attention was given to expanding partnerships in digitization and improving tourism infrastructure. The leaders emphasized their commitment to closely collaborate at the governmental level to implement the agreements reached," the report states.

It is worth noting that on March 4, Kobakhidze also visited Tashkent’s "New Uzbekistan" park alongside Uzbekistan’s Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, where he laid flowers at the Independence Monument. He later held meetings with members of the Uzbek Senate.
