On August 11, at a meeting of the Senate Council of the Oliy Majlis, Kholmomin Buvraboyevich Yodgorov was re-elected Chairman of the Supreme Council of Judges for another five-year term, the Senate press service reported.

The decision was adopted following the nomination of Yodgorov by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Yodgorov was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court in May 2017 and became Chairman of the Supreme Council of Judges in August 2020.

According to Article 135 of the Constitution of Uzbekistan, the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council of Judges are elected by the Senate upon the nomination of the President for a five-year term. The same person may not be elected to either position for more than two consecutive terms.

Article 72 of the Law “On Courts” also stipulates that the term of office for the Chairman or Deputy Chairman of a court is five years, with a maximum of two consecutive terms in the same court. If the term expires or the officeholder requests dismissal, judicial powers are retained. In such cases, the individual continues to work as a judge, and if no vacancy exists in the same court, they may be transferred—with their consent—to another court for the remainder of their judicial term.
