Cannavaro comments on security checks in the U.S.

Uzbekistan national team head coach Fabio Cannavaro commented on the enhanced security checks conducted by U.S. security services after the team arrived in New York. Cannavaro addressed the matter in an interview with Corriere dello Sport.

Earlier, it was reported that players and delegation members had undergone separate checks involving service dogs and metal detectors. The players’ personal belongings were also temporarily taken and inspected on site.

“It was a routine check. These days, such control measures are carried out at almost any airport. In the U.S., however, this process is conducted directly at the place where we arrive at the stadium,” Cannavaro said.

The 2026 World Cup will mark Uzbekistan national team’s first appearance in the tournament’s history. In the group stage, Uzbekistan will face Colombia, Portugal and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
