After the protests held in Karakalpakstan between 1-2 July of the current year, a criminal case was initiated on the charge of Article 159, Part 4 (Encroachment on the constitutional system of the Republic of Uzbekistan) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan - "Conspiracy to seize power or overthrow the constitutional regime of the Republic of Uzbekistan."  This was reported by a representative of the General Prosecutor’s Office.

The representative noted that, from 1 to 2 July, some malicious individuals had tried to undermine the situation by using aggression and violence under the pretext of protesting constitutional reforms.

“In order to ensure the legality and inevitability of punishment, criminal proceedings were initiated on 2 July under part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code and other articles. Investigation of a criminal case and operative-investigative measures are being carried out by an investigative team consisting of responsible officers of the State Security Service, the General Prosecutor’s Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the National Guard, formed in accordance with the leadership of the General Prosecutor’s Office,”- the representative of the General Prosecutor’s Office said.

It is noted that the activities of the operational-search group and operational-investigative measures are coordinated by the established interdepartmental special staff.
