Can girls wear headscarves to school? The minister replies

In schools in Uzbekistan, girls are allowed to wear a headscarf around the back of their heads. This was announced today, 26 July by the Minister of Public Education Bakhtiyor Saidov.

"According to our national values, it does not make sense for students to come to school with a light-colored national scarf wrapped around the back of their head," said Saidov.

It is also allowed to extend the length of the skirt and blouse sleeves of schoolgirls, but they cannot be shorter than the specified size.

Low-income families are provided with additional resources by local governments from the local budget, as well as funds from the "Iron book", "women's book" and "Youth book" funds to purchase school uniforms.
