Drunk driver fatally stabs an internal affairs officer in Kashkadarya

Social media reports indicated that the driver of a Lacetti vehicle, under the influence of alcohol, fatally stabbed a traffic safety inspector in Kokdala district, Kashkadarya region. QALAMPIR.UZ contacted Shohrukh Giyosov, the Ministry of Internal Affairs' spokesperson, to clarify the incident.

The incident occurred on July 8 around 19:00. An operational officer from Kokdala district DIA noticed a Lacetti speeding dangerously through Toqchi village, endangering traffic participants. The officer promptly alerted the district police station.

Senior Sergeant Elbek Primov, an inspector from the district DIA, intercepted the vehicle and identified the driver, S.B., as intoxicated. Upon realizing this, the driver attempted to flee but engaged in a confrontation with the pursuing inspector, striking him multiple times with a kitchen knife before fleeing the scene.

Senior Sergeant Elbek Primov sustained severe injuries to his abdomen and left elbow, resulting in significant blood loss. Despite medical efforts, Primov succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at the medical facility.

Following swift search efforts, authorities apprehended the perpetrator within the Kokdala district.

The regional prosecutor's office has initiated criminal proceedings under Article 219 (Resisting a representative of authorities or a person performing a civil duty) and Article 97 (Deliberate murder) of the Criminal Code.

The Kokdala district prosecutor's office is currently conducting a preliminary investigation into the case.

Efforts are also underway to support the deceased officer's family and relatives, ensuring their social protection during this difficult time.
