A 25-year-old man died after being swept away by a powerful mudflow in Dehkanabad district of Kashkadarya region on May 19. Prosecutor General’s Office spokesperson Hayot Shamsutdinov told QALAMPIR.UZ in response to an inquiry.
According to the information, at 8:20 p.m., the Dehkanabad District Department of Internal Affairs received a report that the body of an unidentified man had been carried by floodwaters in a river in Qurilish village, located in the Yangi Hayot mahalla.
During the pre-investigation inquiry, it was established that the deceased, identified as Sh.O., had gone out at around 3:00 p.m. to graze his sheep but had not returned by 6:00 p.m. Heavy rain fell in the village at that time, causing a mudflow. Some time later, Sh.O.’s body was carried along by the floodwaters in the river. It was then taken to his home.
Officials said a pre-investigation inquiry is being conducted by the district prosecutor’s office. A legal decision will be made based on the results of the inquiry.
Earlier, it was reported that four people died as a result of heavy rains and mudflows in neighboring Tajikistan.
