An individual attempting to smuggle ancient numismatic items out of Uzbekistan has been apprehended in Bukhara region. This was reported by the regional customs department.
According to the report, as the passenger was about to board a flight from Bukhara to Istanbul, customs officers at the "Bukhara Airport" conducted a routine check. During the inspection, it was discovered that the individual was trying to smuggle ancient coins hidden in their hand luggage.
Preliminary analysis indicates that some of the 263 ancient coins seized as evidence were minted approximately 500 years ago.
"To determine the precise antiquity of these numismatic items, the Cultural Heritage Department of Bukhara region has commissioned an artistic examination. Investigation efforts are ongoing," the report stated.
It is also noted that earlier, a Tajik citizen was apprehended for transporting 400 rare turtles from Uzbekistan.
