Apple has released a new software update for Mac and iPhone devices to fix a dangerous vulnerability, according to the MacRumors portal.
The vulnerability, identified as CVE-2025-6558, was addressed in iOS 18.6 and macOS Sequoia 15.6, both released at the end of July. This flaw allowed hackers to bypass Chrome’s security firewalls and execute arbitrary code outside the browser’s “sandbox.”
The issue also affected WebKit, the engine that powers the Safari browser, potentially causing system errors when processing malicious web content.
Google fixed the same vulnerability in the Chrome browser on July 15. However, due to the deep integration of this flaw into Apple's operating system components, a separate system update was required for iPhones and Macs.
Technical details of the exploit have not yet been disclosed. Reports confirm that the vulnerability is already being used in real-world cyberattacks. For this reason, Google has delayed the release of specific details until most users have installed the necessary security patches.
It is worth recalling that earlier reports described the largest confidential data leak in information security history, with 16 billion sets of login credentials and passwords leaked online.
