Ibrahim Raisi arrived in Uzbekistan today, November 9, accompanied by his wife. He is the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and they visited Uzbekistan to participate in the 16th summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization.


The high-ranking guest was welcomed by the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Abdulla Aripov, and other officials at Islam Karimov Tashkent International Airport. After the warm welcome, Ibrahim Raisi left for his residence.


The ECO summit is chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and attended by Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Alikhan Smailov, Prime Minister of Pakistan, Anwar ul-Haq Kakar, President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadir Japarov, President of the Republic of Turkey, Rajab Tayyip Erdogan, and it was reported that the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, arrived in Tashkent as well.


Today, on November 9, the sixteenth summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) is being held in Tashkent under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Heads of state and government from Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Turkey are expected to participate in the event.


The agenda for the summit includes discussions on further expansion of trade, economic, investment, transport, communication, and humanitarian cooperation, as well as improvements in the activities of this multilateral structure within the framework of ECO.


As part of the summit program, the leader of Uzbekistan will hold a number of bilateral meetings.


The Economic Cooperation Organization was founded in 1985, with its permanent secretariat located in Tehran. The Republic of Uzbekistan has been a member of ECO since 1992. The last summit of this organization was held in Turkmenistan in November 2021.
