FIFA President sends congratulatory letter to Mirziyoyev

7780President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, has sent an official letter to President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev following the historic qualification of the national football team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The news was shared by the Presidential Press Secretary, Sherzod Asadov.
In his message, Infantino highlighted Uzbekistan’s early qualification as a major milestone not only for the country but also for Asian football.
“Yesterday, Uzbekistan qualified for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in its history and became one of the first teams in Asia to secure a place in the 2026 tournament. On behalf of the entire football community, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to you and the people of Uzbekistan on this historic and well-deserved achievement,” the letter stated.
Infantino expressed admiration for the determination and teamwork behind the success, praising all those who contributed to the victory.
“This remarkable accomplishment was made possible by the collective efforts and dedication of everyone involved. I congratulate you, your government, the Football Association of Uzbekistan, the players, coaches, staff, leadership, and of course, the passionate fans.
Dear President, I wish you continued success in the 2026 FIFA World Cup and look forward to meeting Your Excellency again,” Infantino wrote.
As previously reported, on June 5, the Uzbekistan national team played against the United Arab Emirates at Al-Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi in the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The match ended in a 0-0 draw, securing Uzbekistan's historic qualification under the leadership of head coach Temur Kapadze.
Following the game, President Mirziyoyev personally called the team to congratulate them and announced that he would award them the honorary title “Pride of Uzbekistan.” He later signed a decree to this effect.
The team returned to Uzbekistan on June 6 at 16:30 and was welcomed by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov. The players are also expected to receive a presidential gift — BYD cars.
