The midfielder of the Uzbekistan national team, Abbosbek Fayzullaev, was close to moving from Russia’s CSKA to Lisbon’s Benfica, but the Portuguese club rejected the transfer due to political reasons. This was revealed by the player’s agent, German Tkachenko.

’’About a year ago, we spoke and met with many clubs that were ready to buy Fayzullaev, and Abbos himself was prepared to make the move. The list included more than thirty clubs. Benfica, however, told us the transfer was impossible. Perhaps they did not realize that Abbos is Uzbek, because their response mentioned the presence of Ukrainian players in the team. Or maybe they already knew about the ban on cooperating with Russian clubs,’’ Tkachenko said.

Fayzullaev played for CSKA from July 2023 until the summer of 2025. With the ’’Red-blues,’’ he appeared in 72 matches, scoring 8 goals and providing 22 assists. During his time with the ’’army men,’’ Abbosbek won the Russian Cup and Super Cup, as well as earning bronze medals in the RPL.

Currently, Abbosbek Fayzullaev plays for Turkey’s Istanbul Basaksehir. It is worth noting that another Uzbek footballer, Eldor Shomurodov, is also a member of the Basaksehir squad.
