Higher education institutions merged in Fergana

8209The higher education landscape in Fergana region is undergoing a major reorganization following a presidential decree titled “On Measures to Further Improve the Activities of Higher Education Institutions in Fergana Region”, signed on January 24.
As part of the reforms, several universities will be consolidated:
- Fergana State Technical University will be established by merging the Fergana branch of the Fergana Polytechnic Institute and the Tashkent University of Information Technologies.
- Kokand State University will be formed by integrating the Kokand branch of Tashkent State Technical University and the Fergana regional branch of the Uzbekistan State Institute of Arts and Culture.
- Fergana State University will absorb the Fergana branch of the Uzbekistan State University of Physical Education and Sports.
Key changes from the 2025/2026 academic year
- Enhanced Curriculum: The qualification requirements and curricula of these universities will align with top 300 globally ranked foreign institutions.
- Specialized Classes: Gifted students will study in separate groups with instruction in foreign languages.
- Innovation & Industry Partnerships:
- Fergana State Technical University will establish an Advanced Engineering School and "spin-off" enterprises.
- Large industrial enterprises and organizations will be assigned as strategic partners.
All students currently enrolled in the dissolved institutions will continue their studies at the corresponding newly established universities, ensuring a smooth transition.
This major restructuring aims to modernize higher education in Fergana, aligning it with global academic standards and industry demands.
