A man who deliberately ran over an acquaintance with a car in the Fergana region, resulting in the victim's death, has been sentenced to 8 years and 6 months in prison. The case was featured in the “Zamon” television program.

According to the report, the defendant—who had two prior convictions—arrived at a neighbor's shop on Amir Temur Street in the city of Kokand, driving an Onix car that did not belong to him. He rang the car’s alarm to summon the shop owner, who came out after some delay. This led to a verbal altercation between the two men.

The confrontation escalated when the shop owner returned inside. The defendant followed him, attempted to strangle him, and inflicted minor injuries during a physical altercation inside the shop. He then stole two bottles of drinking water and fled the scene in the vehicle.

The shopkeeper called his brothers, who soon arrived at the location. About 30 minutes later, the perpetrator returned. Spotting the shopkeeper’s brother standing behind the car, he intentionally reversed at high speed and ran him over. Despite knowing the man was trapped under the car, the driver moved forward again, running over him a second time. He then fled the scene and went into hiding.

The victim suffered severe injuries and died in the hospital 10 days later.

The case was heard in the Besharik District Court. The defendant was found guilty under several articles of the Criminal Code: Article 277 (Hooliganism), Part 1; Article 166 (Robbery), Part 1; and Article 104 (Intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm), Part 3, Clause “d”. He was sentenced to 8 years and 6 months in a strict-regime correctional facility.

It is worth noting that a similar tragedy occurred earlier in Tashkent, where a BYD car struck a schoolgirl, resulting in the death of a 9-year-old. The driver in that case received a 4-year prison sentence.
