Freshly harvested apricots, plums, nectarines, as well as unpeeled walnuts and almonds grown in Uzbekistan, can now be exported to the Arab Republic of Egypt. This was reported by the Plant Quarantine and Protection Agency.

It is noted that the agency has been negotiating with the Egyptian side to create this opportunity and has received phytosanitary permits for the products. Once shipments undergo phytosanitary inspection and are confirmed to be free of quarantine pests for Egypt, a phytosanitary permit will be issued. By international requirements, each shipment must be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate under ISPM No. 7 and ISPM No. 12 standards.

“Obtaining phytosanitary permits for new types of products will allow Uzbekistan to expand its export geography, build a bridge to enter the markets of the Middle East and Africa, and extend the seasonal sales period of agricultural products,” the report states.

Egypt is one of the largest consumer markets in Africa and the Middle East, with a population of over 110 million. The demand for fruit and vegetable products remains high year-round, and the country imports hundreds of thousands of tons of fresh produce annually. To date, Uzbekistan has received phytosanitary permits for the export of 25 types of products to Egypt.

It should be recalled that earlier it was reported that Uzbekistan exported 2 million tons of fruits and vegetables worth 1.5 billion US dollars in January-December 2024. The largest share was exported to Russia — 815.1 thousand tons, valued at 632.9 million US dollars.
