Now, in the dark, a procedure will be introduced that requires schoolchildren, cyclists on bicycle paths and pedestrians to wear reflective vests.  This was reported by the Information Agency of Uzbekistan, referring to Muzifa Sultanova, the spokesperson of the Department of Public Security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

He noted that schoolchildren will be provided with reflective vests based on sponsorship.

This procedure was introduced in order to prevent traffic accidents and further ensure the road safety including preventing violations, fighting against crime by determining its cause.  For information, in fact, a large number of road traffic accidents occur in Uzbekistan because of poorly organized road infrastructure.

“Of the 7,636 road traffic accidents that occurred in 2022, 3,980, i.e. 52%, were caused by improperly organized road infrastructure.  If we also analyze them, the results show:

 a) 1168, i.e. (15.5%) are due to lack of pedestrian crossings;
 b) 641 (8.4%) are due to lack of bicycle lanes;
 d) 619 (8.1%) because barriers dividing the road into two were not installed;
 e) 435 due to poorly lit roads;
 f) in 481 cases (6.3%) due to the lack of obstacles prohibiting the movement of pedestrians;
 g) 344 (5%) Road Transport Incidents were caused by narrow roads.
