4519In 2023, the high-speed "Afrosiyab" train incurred a loss of 238 billion sums, as revealed by Zufar Narzullayev, Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan Railways JSC, during the fifty-eighth plenary session of the Senate.
According to Narzullayev, the "Afrosiyab" train operated at a loss throughout the year. He noted that, in Europe, high-speed train tickets are typically more expensive than airplane tickets, while regular train services operate on a fixed tariff system.
Starting January 1, 2025, the pricing model for "Afrosiyab" tickets will change to a dynamic system, similar to that used by airlines.
"In this case, train ticket prices will fluctuate based on demand, just like airfares. Meanwhile, the fares for regular train services will continue to be regulated in coordination with the Ministry of Economy and Finance," explained Narzullayev.
It was previously reported that ticket prices for the "Afrosiyab" electric train are set to increase again.
