From now on, graduates of military higher education institutions in Uzbekistan who do not serve for five years will be required to repay their tuition costs. This was established by amendments to the “Regulations on the Procedure for Citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Perform Military Service,” approved by the President on November 3.
According to the amendments, graduates of military academies who do not serve in officer positions for five calendar years after graduation must reimburse the costs incurred for their education.
Under current legislation, citizens who graduate from military higher education institutions are required to serve in officer positions for five calendar years. If they fail to do so, the state budget can claim reimbursement for the tuition costs.
The amendment also addresses the situation in which graduates are assigned to other ministries or agencies to serve not as military personnel but as staff. In such cases, legislation now clarifies that these graduates are still obliged to fulfill five calendar years of service.
It is worth noting that previously, the “Procedure for Selecting Conscripts” established the rules for conscript selection in Uzbekistan. According to these rules, candidates may participate in the selection process only once per year, which takes place from August 10 of the year preceding the call-up until February 10 of the call-up year.
