“Dok-1 Max” was found to contain a toxic substance

13577It was discovered that the “Dok-1 Max” drug, which caused the death of 19 children in Uzbekistan, contained 300 times more toxic substances than the norm. This was reported by “Mint” publication.
Embassy employees were informed by the Agency for the Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry under the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan (“Ozfarm”) that the batch contains ethylene glycol, which is 300 times higher than the norm specified in medical regulations.
The Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) has suspended the marketing authorization of Marion Biotech.
In a letter to Sachin Jain, CEO and Managing Director of Marion Biotech, Pharmexcil said:
The “Uzfarm” agency, which is responsible for monitoring the situation, has taken this issue into serious consideration. Embassy employees were informed by “Uzfarm” agency about the presence of ethylene glycol in the batch of medicines, 300 times more than allowed according to medical regulations. The correct drug in the composition should have been propylene glycol.’
We remind you that by the order of the Pharmaceutical Network Development Agency of the Ministry of Health on 22 December 2022, it was decided to withdraw “Dok-1 Max” drugs from pharmacies.
It was also reported that 7 officials were dismissed from their positions after the death of 18 children in Samarkand due to the consumption of “Dok-1 Max” syrup.
On 28 December, it was reported that another child died after drinking “Dok-1 Max” syrup in Kashkadarya.
After that, the Investigative Department of the State Security Service initiated a criminal case against the officials of the “Kuramax Medical” Limited Liability Company and the “Scientific Center for Standardization of Medicines” Limited Liability Company, and the suspects were placed in the investigative detention center of the State Security Service.
Later, India’s Marion Biotech Pvt. Ltd” company stopped production of these drugs.
Also, the sale of all types of medicines produced by this company was stopped.
On 2 January 2023, it was reported that a 3-year-old boy in Fergana was being treated for acute drug poisoning after drinking Dok-1 Max syrup.
