The State Security Service issues a statement on the use of weapons on the Uzbek-Kyrgyz border

Earlier, we reported that Uzbek border guards had wounded three citizens of Kyrgyzstan with firearms and, as a result, they passed away.

The state security service of the Republic of Uzbekistan issued an official statement on the situation of border troops on the border with Kyrgyzstan.

It is noted that according to the report of the state security service of the Republic of Uzbekistan, yesterday, 5 May, a group of people tried to cross the Uzbek-Kyrgyz State border in the village of Aktom of Yangikurgan district in Namangan region, smuggling large quantities of inventory.  Uzbek border guards took measures to prevent the violation of state border.

While being apprehended, the violators resisted the state border guards using force, they attempted to acquire weapons and inflicted a number of injuries.   

In this case, the military were compelled to use weapons in accordance with the law.  As a result, three people were injured and their accomplices took them to Kyrgyzstan.

On 5 May, a meeting was held between the representatives of border troops of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic to clarify the details of the incident.

In addition, on 6 May, the representatives of border guard held a meeting on the direction of the Fergana valley and in the Jalalabad region of Kyrgyzstan.

«Both sides are currently running investigations on the incident and the situation on the border is stable», – the official statement says.

Today, 6 May, the relevant law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Uzbekistan initiated a criminal case under article 223 of the criminal code («Illegal departure abroad or entry into the Republic of Uzbekistan») and are conducting an investigation.
