The Government of Montenegro has revoked the visa-free regime for citizens of Uzbekistan. The decision was announced on October 9 on the official website of the Montenegrin government.

According to the statement, the Cabinet of Ministers of Montenegro adopted amendments to previous decisions that had temporarily lifted visa requirements for citizens of Uzbekistan, Armenia, and Egypt.

’’In line with obligations under the 2024–2027 Reform Agenda and the closure criteria for Chapter 24 of EU accession, Montenegro continues to align with the European Union’s visa policy. Accordingly, the amendments adopted today suspend the validity of previous decisions temporarily lifting visa requirements for nationals of these countries. This demonstrates Montenegro’s firm commitment to full EU membership,’’ the statement read.

The Montenegrin government has also adopted the Regulation on amendments to the visa regime regulation. According to these amendments, citizens of Kuwait have been removed from the list of countries whose nationals could enter Montenegro without a visa, while the Republic of Nauru has been added to the list.

’’This step represents another stage in Montenegro’s alignment with the European Union’s visa policy and the EU Regulation No. 2018/1806 of the European Parliament and of the Council, which defines the list of third countries whose citizens are required to obtain a visa and those exempted from this requirement when crossing the EU’s external borders. Under this regulation, Nauru citizens are allowed visa-free stays of up to 90 days within the European Union,’’ the statement said.

However, the government did not specify the exact date when the new rules will take effect.

It is worth noting that during the bilateral tourism forum between Uzbekistan and Montenegro held in Tashkent in 2023, it was announced that visa requirements for Uzbek citizens traveling to Montenegro had been lifted.
