Custom officers seize $1 million and 503.6 kg of narcotic substances

In the first three months of the current year, 503.6 kg of narcotic drugs and $1 million foreign currency in cash have been seized at the borders of Uzbekistan.  This was announced at a briefing on 20 April by the press secretary of the State Customs Committee, Husan Tangriev.

It was noted that in the operational measures in January-March, 9 times more, or 503.6 kg of drugs and 101 thousand units of potent drugs, 1.6 thousand units of psychotropic substances were seized, compared to the same period last year.

In addition, $1 million foreign currency in cash was also suspended-which a 10-fold increase over the same period last year. In the first quarter, illicit trafficking of the jewelry in the amount of 5.2 billion som, 170,000 boxes of tobacco and 490 items of cultural property customs were seized was prevented by the customs officers.

“Another innovation is that on the basis of international experience, a new system of «imperceptible customs control» has been introduced at the new international airport of Samarkand since 1 April of the current year.  Until the end of the year, the system will be implemented at the airports of Tashkent, Fergana and Termez», – Husan Tangriev said.
