It is determined that the weight of textbooks for primary school students should not exceed 300 grams

The government’s decision approved the “General technical regulations for setting safety requirements for printing products for educational institutions.”  This was reported by the Ministry of Justice.

The regulations set the following:

 • requirements for the safety of printed products used in pre-school, general secondary and secondary special and professional education;
 • security requirements for printing products intended for writing;
 • requirements for security of educational publications and publications for additional education;
 • requirements for packaging of publications;
 • print product identification, sample selection and control methods.

In particular, narrow fonts cannot be used in educational publications for general secondary education and secondary special and professional education.
 Also, the use of newsprint and glossy paper in printing products for educational institutions is not allowed.

Publications by age category:
 • Grades 1-4;
 • Grades 5-9;
 • Intended for grades 10-11.

Publication weight for textbooks:

 • 300 grams for grades 1-4;
 • 400 grams for 5-6 grades;
 • 500 grams for grades 7-9;
 • For grades 10-11, it should not exceed 600 grams.

In the literature for grades 1-4, color paints, font marking, underlined fonts, multi-column typing are not used.  The regulation will be implemented 6 months after its official publication.
