Depending on the results of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, sports in Uzbekistan will be divided into three categories using a differential approach. This was discussed today, February 13, at a videoconference meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who also serves as Chairman of the National Olympic Committee.

Boxing, judo, taekwondo, freestyle wrestling, and weightlifting have been identified as priority areas. However, the leaders of these federations were instructed not to be complacent and to set a goal of doubling the number of medals.

It was also noted that Uzbekistan has adequate resources and talented athletes for Greco-Roman wrestling, women's wrestling, archery, and fencing.

To achieve results in these sports at the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games, it was directed to attract foreign specialists and focus on the physical and mental training of athletes.

Additionally, licenses in 22 promising sports such as athletics, cycling, rowing, swimming, and shooting should be increased by three to four times, with a determined effort to compete for medals.

The importance of obtaining licenses in 17 developing sports, including synchronized swimming, triathlon, volleyball, basketball, handball, and badminton, was also emphasized.

Leaders of these federations were urged to engage at the neighborhood level to identify young talents, select one sports school to serve as a base, enhance its infrastructure, and provide qualified coaching staff.

It is worth noting that earlier reports indicated plans to establish regional branches of the Olympic Committee in Uzbekistan.
