In Uzbekistan, 2,188 people died as a result of road traffic accidents in 2025, according to the Road Traffic Safety Department.
The figure is slightly lower than in 2024, when 2,199 fatalities were recorded. In addition, 8,901 people sustained injuries of varying severity in road accidents in 2025, compared to 8,931 in the previous year.
According to the World Health Organization, an average of 1.1 million people die in road traffic accidents worldwide each year, while nearly 30 million suffer injuries of varying degrees. Road accidents also remain one of the leading causes of death among people under the age of 29.
Analytical data show that a downward trend in road traffic accidents has been maintained over the past five years (2021–2025), despite growth in both population and the number of vehicles. In particular, Uzbekistan’s population increased from 35,271,276 in 2021 to 38,232,254 in 2025, while the number of registered vehicles rose from 3,821,869 to 5,532,396 during the same period.
Nevertheless, over the past five years, the number of fatalities from road traffic accidents per 100,000 population declined from 6.9 to 5.7, while deaths per 10,000 vehicles fell from 6.3 to 4.
As a result of practical measures aimed at improving safety around educational institutions and in residential neighborhoods, the number of road accidents involving children decreased by 171 compared to 2024, while the number of child fatalities fell by 36.
According to the results of 2024, Uzbekistan ranked second among CIS countries in terms of the lowest number of road traffic accidents per 100,000 population, after Azerbaijan, and ranked first in terms of the lowest number of fatal road accidents.
It is worth recalling that on December 7 last year, a minor girl, a school student, was struck by a vehicle in the city of Jizzakh and later died in hospital.
