Police officer detained in Bekobod while taking a $10,000 bribe

A police officer was detained with $10,000 in the city of Bekobod, Tashkent region, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.
According to the information, a former employee of the Department for the Protection of Facilities, who had been dismissed from the internal affairs bodies several months earlier, asked his colleague for assistance in being reinstated to his previous position. The colleague claimed he could help through acquaintances in senior positions and demanded $10,000 in return for restoring him to his former job.
In order to stop the illegal actions, the former employee filed a complaint with the Main Directorate for Personal Security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Tashkent region. During an оператив search operation, the officer was detained near public dining facilities in Bekobod at the moment he was receiving the demanded money from his colleague. The cash was seized as material evidence.
A criminal case has been initiated under Articles 28 and 168 (fraud) and Article 211, Part 2, paragraph “b” (bribe-giving) of the Criminal Code. Investigative actions are currently ongoing.
Earlier, a customs post head in Fergana was detained for demanding $5,000 in exchange for allowing 80 mobile phones to be transported across the border without inspection or customs payments.
