Court restrictions on foreign travel for certain individuals have been strengthened under a decree adopted on August 15, “On introducing amendments and additions to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with the improvement of the institution of coercive measures in criminal proceedings.”
According to the amendments, a temporary ban will be imposed on any suspect, accused, or defendant who has not been placed in custody but has left Uzbekistan and refused to comply with a court order without valid reasons.
The prosecutor or investigator will issue a decision to request the temporary restriction of the right to leave Uzbekistan, based on the grounds for applying this preventive measure.
Requests for such restrictions will be reviewed in a closed court session no later than eight hours after the materials are received.
Upon reviewing the request, the judge will issue a ruling to either impose or deny the temporary restriction on foreign travel. This ruling may be challenged or appealed within 48 hours.
The law entered into force on the day of its enactment.
