Internal affairs officer arrested over bribery allegations in Angren (video)

A senior investigator of the Investigation Department in Angren, Tashkent region, was caught accepting a $5,000 bribe, the State Security Service reported.

According to the report, the senior investigator of the Investigation Department under the Angren Internal Affairs Department of the Tashkent region allegedly demanded $10,000 in exchange for not opening a criminal case against a citizen and for refraining from taking procedural measures during a pre-investigation inquiry under his supervision.

During an operation carried out jointly by the State Security Service, the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the Prosecutor General's Office, and the Main Department of Personal Security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the officer was detained with material evidence while receiving $5,000 of the requested sum.

A criminal case has been initiated against the investigator under Part 2, Clause “b” of Article 210 (Bribery) of the Criminal Code. He has been placed under arrest, and investigative actions are ongoing.

Earlier, the chief specialist of the agricultural department of the Zangiota district in the Tashkent region was detained for taking a $20,000 bribe. He had allegedly demanded $40,000 in exchange for registering an 8-hectare plot of state reserve land, located next to a local resident's house, in that resident’s name for entrepreneurial use through a working group established by the district administration.
