7662Shuhratbek Koshakboyevich Abdurahmanov has been officially confirmed as the governor of the Andijan region, the regional government press service announced.
On November 7, the first session of the Andijan region’s seventh convocation of the Council of People's Deputies convened. During this session, Bakhtyorjon Rasulov, Chairman of the Regional Election Commission, presented the results of the recent October 27 elections.
The President of Uzbekistan nominated Abdurahmanov for the governor position, and following a vote by the People's Deputies of Andijan Region Council, he was confirmed. Additionally, Oktamjon Akhunov was elected as the Chairman of the Council of People's Deputies for the Andijan region.
During the session, the Council also registered deputy party groups, approved regional council regulations, and ratified the statute on permanent commissions.
According to Uzbek law, regional governor candidates are presented by the President and consulted upon by party groups. Under Article 2 of the "Law on Local State Power," the President appoints and dismisses regional and Tashkent city governors, who serve five-year terms with a maximum of two consecutive terms. Governors are tasked with implementing national laws and policies, including regional economic, social, cultural, and environmental development.
Abdurahmanov initially became acting governor of Andijan on April 1, 2013, and was confirmed in this role on April 26, 2013. He has since continued to serve as Andijan’s governor.
Previously, governors in Samarkand, Khorezm, Navoi, Jizzakh, Bukhara, Tashkent region, Tashkent city, Kashkadarya, and Fergana regions have also been confirmed in their posts.
