Allamjonov makes first public appearance after assassination attempt

16664Kamil Allamjonov, a former official of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan who was the target of an assassination attempt on October 26, made his first public appearance on October 27. He participated in the elections for deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and local councils. Allamjonov shared this update on his Telegram channel.
"I made my choice," simply stated, without commenting further on the recent incident.
Details of the Assassination Attempt
The incident occurred on October 26 at 1:40 a.m. when two unidentified assailants fired at a Range Rover driven by citizen S.S. along Ifor Street in the Kibrai district. Fortunately, no one was injured, and the attackers fled the scene.
The General Prosecutor's Office has launched a criminal investigation under Articles 25, 97 (Attempt to commit murder), and 248 (Illegal possession of firearms, ammunition, explosives, or explosive devices) of the Criminal Code. An investigative team involved various law enforcement agencies, including the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Customs Committee.
Today, October 27, the General Prosecutor's Office announced that one of the suspects has been identified and arrested.
Kamil Allamjonov was born on September 18, 1984, in Tashkent. He began his career at the "Yoshlar" television and radio channel of Uzbekistan's National Television and Radio Company. He gained prominence as the head of the Press Service of the State Tax Committee from 2005 to 2013. From December 2017 to October 2018, he served as the presidential administration's deputy head and was the president's press secretary.
On November 29, 2018, Allamjonov was appointed director of the Information and Mass Communications Agency. He later became chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Public Fund for the Support and Development of National Mass Media in January 2020. In July 2022, he was appointed Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration and, in August 2023, head of the Information Policy Department. He served in this role until September 2024.
