Alisher Azamkhodjaev appointed chairman of the Senate Committee

Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Turkey, Alisher Azamkhodjaev, has been appointed chairman of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investments, and Tourism. The news was reported by the Dunyo news agency.

The 67-year-old senator, a native of the Syrdarya region, served as Uzbekistan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkey from 2017 to 2025. Since 2018, he has also held the same position in Bulgaria concurrently.

Azamkhodjaev graduated from the Faculty of Law at Tashkent State University (now the National University of Uzbekistan) in 1980. Over the course of his career, he worked as a lawyer for the Tashkentmebel production association and held various positions in government agencies.

From 1990 to 1995, he served as a people’s deputy and chairman of the Youth Affairs Committee of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan. He later held several positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including roles in foreign embassies, and also led production enterprises.

Azamkhodjaev is fluent in Russian, English, and Turkish.
