9340Gulruhbegim Tahirjonova, a chess player originally from Uzbekistan currently playing for the US national team, has been awarded the title of International Master of Sports. The International Chess Federation announced this on its official website.
Tahirjonova has become the first female chess player from Uzbekistan to achieve the status of International Master of Sports.
It is worth mentioning that the 24-year-old chess player earned the title of Grandmaster in 2016. Last August, she was named the best female chess player in the United States.
For information, Tahirjonova left the Uzbekistan national team due to conflicts with the leadership of the Uzbekistan Chess Federation. Gulruhbegim won against her sister, Nafisa Mominova, under the flag of the USA at the Rapid and Blitz World Chess Championship held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, in December last year.
