Mirziyoyev: Threats from Afghan territory still persist

The economic and social crises in Afghanistan are deepening, while threats originating from its territory persist. This was stated today, October 10, by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev during the regular meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of State held in Dushanbe.

According to the President, much has been said about the common risks and threats to the security and stability of the CIS countries. He emphasized the importance of maintaining systematic and close cooperation between foreign policy agencies and special services, particularly in coordination, information exchange, and joint activities.

’’When speaking about the southern borders of the Commonwealth, we must not forget the complex situation that remains in Afghanistan. Considering the deepening economic and social crisis in that country, the threats and dangers emanating from its territory persist. I want to stress that Uzbekistan remains a steadfast supporter of ensuring long-term peace, stability, and sustainable development in Afghanistan,’’ Mirziyoyev said.

In this regard, the President proposed exploring opportunities for joint participation in major investment and infrastructure projects in Afghanistan.

It should be mentioned that the summit, chaired by President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, was attended by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, President of Russia Vladimir Putin, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, and CIS Secretary-General Sergey Lebedev.

It is worth noting that earlier, President Mirziyoyev noted that transport-related problems persist within the Commonwealth of Independent States. According to him, this calls for the establishment of integrated information and logistics centers for all types of transport.
