Abdusalom Azizov joins presidential team as deputy adviser

Abdusalom Abdumavlonovich Azizov, the former head of the State Security Service, has been appointed as the deputy adviser to the President of Uzbekistan on socio-political, religious-educational, and youth issues. This was announced by the President’s press secretary, Sherzod Asadov.

Azizov has an extensive career in various high-ranking positions. Born in Tashkent on January 20, 1960, he graduated from the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan. Over the years, he has held leadership roles, including Chairman of the board of  "Uzbekneftegaz" (2003–2006), General Director of JSC "Uzbekneftmahsulot" (2006–2008), Deputy Minister and later First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs (2008–2009), Minister of Internal Affairs (January–September 2017), Minister of Defense (2017–2019).
Head of the State Security Service (2019–2024). He was also vice-president of Uzbekistan’s Football Federation from 2008 to 2009. Azizov received the rank of major general in 2017 and was promoted to lieutenant general in 2019.

It is worth noting that Azizov was recently transferred from his role as Chairman of the State Security Service to the Secretariat of the Security Council under the President.
