Since the start of 2025, 5 million people have been employed in Uzbekistan, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced on August 29 at a ceremony marking the 34th anniversary of the country’s independence in Tashkent’s New Uzbekistan Park.
Mirziyoyev said thousands of modern enterprises and socio-economic infrastructure facilities are under construction nationwide. This year, about 9,000 new enterprises and service complexes are planned with a total investment of $35 billion. On the eve of Independence Day, 79 major facilities worth $4 billion were commissioned.
The president noted that the number of small and medium-sized entrepreneurs has doubled in recent years. Currently, more than 10 million people are employed in this sector.
He added that while the government had planned to provide employment for 5.5 million people this year, 5 million jobs were already created in the first eight months alone.
Additionally, 700,000 Uzbek citizens who had been working abroad have returned to the country this year to take up employment.
It is worth noting that earlier reports showed that as of July 1, Uzbekistan’s poverty rate stood at 6.8 percent. In the first half of the year alone, more than 3 million people found gainful employment.
