More than 2,000 wanted individuals detained in Tashkent

More than 2,000 individuals who had been declared wanted were detained in Tashkent in 2025. This was reported by the Tashkent City Main Department of Internal Affairs.

According to the report, a total of 3,923 individuals were placed on wanted lists by the Tashkent City Main Department of Internal Affairs and its territorial divisions, as well as by prosecution and judicial authorities. Of these, 2,146 were detained, while search cases for 94 individuals were transferred to other regions based on territorial jurisdiction.

An analysis of crimes committed by the wanted individuals, broken down by articles of the Criminal Code, shows the following figures:

  • Article 97 (murder) – 6 individuals;
  • Article 104 (intentional grievous bodily harm) – 18 individuals;
  • Article 118 (rape) – 5 individuals;
  • Article 164 (robbery) – 16 individuals;
  • Article 165 (extortion) – 14 individuals;
  • Article 166 (armed robbery) – 38 individuals;
  • Article 135 (human trafficking) – 7 individuals;
  • Article 169 (theft) – 293 individuals;
  • Article 168 (fraud) – 1,084 individuals;
  • Article 167 (embezzlement or misappropriation of another’s property) – 83 individuals;
  • Article 277 (hooliganism) – 48 individuals;
  • Articles 273–276 (illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs) – 143 individuals;
  • Crimes related to terrorism and religious extremism – 20 individuals;
  • Other types of crimes – 443 individuals.

In addition, 86 wanted individuals who had fled the country were detained with the assistance of law enforcement agencies from CIS member states and other foreign countries. Of these, 73 were apprehended in CIS countries and 17 in other foreign states. A total of 67 individuals were extradited to Uzbekistan in 2025, ensuring the inevitability of punishment.

Law enforcement agencies also identified and detained 741 individuals who had been evading investigation and court proceedings without being officially declared wanted, and brought them before investigative and judicial authorities.

Furthermore, 73 individuals who had committed crimes many years ago and had been on the run from investigative and judicial bodies were apprehended. For example, a man born in 1977, identified as N.R., who had been wanted since 2012 on charges under Article 135, Part 3 (human trafficking), was detained on March 19, 2025, following оператив measures. Another individual, born in 1984 and wanted since 2019 under Article 97 (intentional murder), was arrested by internal affairs officers on January 23, 2025.

It is worth noting that earlier reports stated that a citizen of Uzbekistan who was internationally wanted on fraud charges had been detained in Croatia.
