2812In Uzbekistan in 2023, 707 traffic accidents were caused by individuals who had been deprived of their right to drive but subsequently operated vehicles without proper authorization. This information was reported by the press service of the Senate.
It was noted that during the first six months of this year, the total number of accidents in the republic decreased by 7.6%, fatalities by 1.1%, and cases of personal injury by 9.2%. However, the number of accidents and the resulting fatalities remain alarmingly high.
According to Qutbiddin Burkhanov, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defense and Security Issues, in the first half of 2024, more than 10.2 million traffic violations were committed by individuals who had legally obtained driver's licenses. In 2023, 707 accidents occurred involving individuals who had lost their driving privileges but still operated vehicles without a license. These incidents resulted in 212 deaths and 546 injuries.
Additionally, 58.5% of accidents during the first six months of this year involved pedestrians. Analysis revealed that 20% of these pedestrian-related incidents were due to the absence of designated pedestrian crossings, and 19% occurred when pedestrians crossed the road in unmarked areas, even when a pedestrian crossing was available.
Furthermore, 13% of pedestrian-related incidents were caused by drivers proceeding through regulated pedestrian crossings despite a prohibitive traffic signal, while 16% were due to drivers failing to yield to pedestrians at unregulated crossings.
