The first phase of reconstruction at Andijan International Airport has been completed. On March 15, at 10:30 AM, the airport welcomed its first technical flight on the Tashkent-Andijon route operated by Uzbekistan Airways. This was reported by “Uzbekistan Airports.”

The initial phase of the project included significant upgrades to the airfield complex. A new 4E-category runway, 3,300 meters long and 60 meters wide, has been built, alongside one taxiway and an apron with three aircraft parking spaces.

"The newly constructed elements of the airfield, such as the runway, taxiway, and apron, were made from concrete, known for its durability and strength—especially advantageous in hot climates. The runway’s Pavement Classification Number (PCN) is rated at 64R/B/W/T, enabling the airport to accommodate wide-body aircraft like Boeing 787, 747, Airbus A330, and smaller aircraft without restrictions. Similar concrete runways have also been constructed at Navoi and Termez airports," the report states.

The ongoing second phase includes the construction of a second taxiway and an apron with seven additional aircraft parking spaces, as well as the installation of ICAO CAT-II radar, meteorological, and lighting systems. Once completed, the airport will be able to simultaneously service up to 10 aircraft on the apron, operate during nighttime and adverse weather conditions, and increase both flight frequency and passenger traffic to Andijan and the Fergana Valley.

For reference, Andijan Airport was closed on April 1, 2023, for comprehensive reconstruction and modernization. The outdated airfield infrastructure, including its 2,985-meter-long, 44-meter-wide runway, required upgrades due to limited load-bearing capacity and the inability to facilitate nighttime operations or accept various types of modern aircraft.

Regular passenger flights at Andijan International Airport are expected to resume soon.

As a reminder, Shahrisabz Airport recently announced a temporary closure of operations from March 13 to March 25, 2025, for runway renovations.
