How many people died in Sergeli? Report from the second day of the tragedy

Local

As you may know, on September 28th, a fire broke out in the vicinity of a warehouse owned by "Inter Logistics" LLC in the "Quruvchilar" neighborhood of Sergeli district in Tashkent city. Due to the damage caused to the apartment buildings near the warehouse, the windows of the apartments were shattered and needed repair.

The people residing near the incident woke up to a morning without doors or window frames. They still remember the events with tears in their eyes.

"It was quite cold since we had no windows. We sent our grandchildren and daughters-in-law to their mother's house. We managed to sleep with a bit more peace, but the fear didn't completely vanish. I was afraid it might happen again if there was another explosion. Seeing people around us was reassuring. Thank you all once again. We live on the 8th floor, and they are also delivering our food," shared one of the residents.

Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov visited the scene, assessed the situation, and engaged in discussions with the affected residents. He was accompanied by his deputy, Ochilbay Ramatov, and the mayor of the capital, Shavkat Umurzakov.

When questioned by a journalist from QALAMPIR.UZ, Mayor Shavkat Umurzakov stated that he had spoken with the family members of 17-year-old Abrorkhoja Abboskhojayev, who tragically lost his life due to injuries sustained in the explosion, and assured that his family would receive assistance.

"I have spoken with the parents of the deceased, and their grief is profound. One wouldn't wish the loss of a child even on their worst enemy. We are providing all the help we can, and we have also assured them that we will meet to discuss their needs once their psychological condition improves. When they are feeling more at ease and if they express specific requirements for assistance, we will certainly provide it," stated Umurzakov.

Continuing his remarks, he acknowledged the outpouring of support from friends and colleagues who were ready to assist those in need.

"Many of my friends and acquaintances have been calling to inquire about how they can help. There is no shortage of kind-hearted individuals. Regional governors have reached out, offering their assistance. We are grateful that our government has supplied us with all the necessary resources," added Umurzakov.

On social networks, there have been reports that not only a teenager lost his life in the tragic explosion in Sergeli but also employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the National Guard, and the Ministry of Defense. Mayor Shavkat Umurzakov clarified:

"We arrived at 03:00, based on the President's orders, along with Prime Minister Abdulla Nigmatovich to take immediate measures to address the extensive damage caused. When the head of the government arrived, the focus was on helping the lives of the people in the region. State agencies, along with 12 district governors and their respective departments, have come together to tackle these issues swiftly. So, our 'friends' making such statements will certainly be addressed," stated Shavkat Umrzakov.

The mayor expressed gratitude to all the businessmen who worked tirelessly throughout the night and delivered doors and frames promptly. He assured that every product supplied by them would be purchased at the agreed price, and there would be no additional obligations imposed on these businessmen.

"While 592 apartments are undergoing repairs, the total frame area is 3.5 square meters. I thank the entrepreneurs. All entrepreneurs providing construction materials, doors, and frames are offering them at 30 percent lower prices. Additionally, house and room doors are also being supplied. It's worth noting that each entrepreneur is being compensated without additional obligations," stated Umurzakov.

He also announced that one kindergarten and a school in the area would be renovated. Furthermore, plans include setting up a children's playground, a parking lot, and a park for the elderly in the residential area.
