9477President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Mir Arab Higher Madrasa during his visit to the Bukhara region today, 17 February.
This madrasah has a history spanning 500 years. Many scientists, imams, and muftis grew up learning in it. However, in the last century, its status was reduced to the level of a secondary special educational institution. The building was also damaged, and there was a shortage of books.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev came here in 2017, saw the situation, and aimed to restore the historical status of the madrasa. For this, a new building was built near the Ark and recently put into use.
The higher madrasa has 200 seats. The Holy Qur'an, hadith, fiqh and mysticism, and foreign languages are carefully taught here. Today, a total of 107 students are studying.
The madrasa has all amenities including: classrooms, a library, a hall of activists, a student dormitory and a service house, a gymnasium, and a swimming pool.
The head of state talked with madrasa students.
"There are very few educational institutions with such a long history. I think it was a good thing that we improved his conditions today and restored historical justice. As a result of our democratic reforms, freedom also entered the religious sphere. At the same time, the information space is also open. Various interpretations on the Internet do not have a scientific basis, but how do inexperienced young people know them? Scholars like you, our imams, should prove this and explain it correctly," says Mirziyoyev.
Opinions were expressed on reforming the hours and quality of religious education, connecting it with practice.
With that, the President's visit to the Bukhara region ended, and the head of state left for Tashkent.
