Khusanov's role depends on our tactics – Guardiola

"Manchester City" manager Pep Guardiola discussed the possibility of Abdukodir Khusanov starting against "Newcastle" during a pre-match press conference.  

“If I were to talk about the two new defenders, Abdukodir Khusanov, who can help the team at the right time, they are both central defenders. We were forced to play Akanji on the wing. Now he is out for 8-10 weeks. We need to fill his place. I have Rico Lewis and Mateus Nunes at my disposal. How Abdukadir can play in this position depends on the style of play and tactics we choose. We will study this issue again,” said Guardiola.  

Following Akanji's injury, Guardiola faces the challenge of filling the gap on the wing. Fans have suggested that Khusanov should be given an opportunity to play. They expressed their views on social media, saying:  
- “We wish Akanji good health. He was a first-team player. If Stones is in form, he should move to the central midfield position because Kovacic is acting rather slowly. Now Lewis and Khusanov will compete for the first team.”  
- “Guardiola, Dias, Reis, and Khusanov are also not bad options. It would be appropriate for Stones to be placed a little higher than them.”
