20165The number of deputy governors in Uzbekistan will increase by one, with a new position dedicated to agricultural and water management issues introduced. This change is outlined in President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's resolution, “On Measures to Further Improve Public Administration in the Field of Agriculture,” adopted on December 2.
According to the resolution:
- The structures of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and regional governments will now include a Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers and a deputy governor for agricultural and water management issues, as well as a Minister of Agriculture for the Republic of Karakalpakstan and a Head of the Regional Agricultural Department.
- At the district level (including Kuvasoy city), governments will establish the position of deputy governor for agricultural and water management issues, who will also serve as the head of the district or city agricultural department.
These officials will focus on reducing state involvement in the agricultural sector and enhancing its investment appeal. Key priorities include attracting private capital to ensure food security, modernizing and diversifying agricultural practices, and supporting sustainable growth in the food and agricultural sectors.
