Twenty-four Uzbek universities enter Top 1000 ranking

Twenty-four universities from Uzbekistan have been included in the ranking of the world’s top 1,000 higher education institutions. This was stated in the THE Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026, announced by the international ranking agency Times Higher Education during an education congress held in Indonesia on June 24 this year.
The ranking assesses the contribution of universities around the world to the UN Sustainable Development Goals based on key criteria such as quality of education, scientific research, institutional governance, social responsibility, environmental sustainability and international cooperation.
According to the 2026 results, a total of 50 higher education institutions from Uzbekistan were included in the ranking. Of them, 24 universities successfully entered the list of the world’s top 1,000 universities.
The highest results were recorded by Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature named after Alisher Navoi and Tashkent State University of Economics, which were placed in the 101-200 range.
In addition, the National University of Uzbekistan and TIIAME National Research University were ranked in the 201-300 range, while Bukhara State University, Samarkand State Medical University and Termez University of Economics and Service were placed in the 301-400 range.
Uzbek universities also achieved high results in certain areas of sustainable development. In particular, Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature named after Alisher Navoi ranked eighth in the world in the Gender Equality category. Tashkent State Technical University ranked fifth in the Affordable and Clean Energy category, while Fergana Polytechnic Institute ranked sixth.
Tashkent State Pedagogical University ranked 20th in the Gender Equality category, while Termez State University and Tashkent University of Information Technologies ranked 36th and 48th, respectively, in the Affordable and Clean Energy category. Tashkent Medical Academy and Samarkand State Medical University entered the world’s top 100 universities in the Good Health and Well-being category.
According to the data, the number of Uzbek universities participating in this ranking has been increasing year by year. While only 12 higher education institutions were included in the ranking in 2021, this figure reached 30 in 2022, 47 in 2023, 53 in 2024 and 59 in 2025. In 2026, 50 higher education institutions from the country were included in the ranking, 24 of which secured places among the top 1,000.
