In Uzbekistan, the first week of October is designated as the week of commemoration for the victims of political repression. In line with this, the President has issued a decision titled "On expanding the study, promotion, and perpetuation of the memory of our compatriots who were victims of political repression."
During the years 2021-2024, the names of more than 1,200 victims of political repression have been cleared by the Supreme Court. A republican commission will be established to study the lives and activities of Uzbeks who were victims of political repression and to coordinate efforts to honor their memory.
"The centuries-old brave struggle of our people for independence, the lives and activities of our compatriots who were subjected to political repression, as well as spiritual and educational events, roundtable discussions, and three-generation meetings in educational institutions and neighborhoods, will be organized in their memory," states the decision.
It is noteworthy that in May of this year, 198 individuals who were unjustly punished by court verdicts between 1930-1938 were acquitted by the criminal trial panel of the Supreme Court.
