The movement of individuals, passenger cars, buses, and trucks weighing up to 3.5 tons through the "Tajen" ("Davut Ota") checkpoint on the border between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan has been temporarily suspended for an extended period. This was reported by Kazinform, citing the State Revenue Committee of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Finance.
According to the committee, the closure was extended to ensure the safety of citizens and to expedite ongoing construction and reconstruction work at the checkpoint.
Currently, infrastructure work is underway, including the installation of metal structures, the laying of engineering networks, and the complete overhaul of buildings within the checkpoint area.
From May through August 2025, the Kazakh company "KazAvtoJol" is carrying out the construction of a new highway in the neutral zone between the "Tajen" (Kazakhstan) and "Davut Ota" (Uzbekistan) checkpoints. Similar infrastructure improvements are also planned on the Uzbek side of the border.
In light of this, Kazakhstan officially requested Uzbekistan to extend the restrictions on border crossings for an additional four months, until September 1, 2025. Uzbekistan has supported and approved this request.
“We ask citizens to take this information into account when planning their trips and routes,” the committee stated.
It should be recalled that in an earlier announcement, the passage of passenger cars, buses, and trucks weighing up to 3.5 tons through the "Tajen–Davut Ota" border checkpoint was suspended for three months starting February 1, 2025.
